Media Release: Response to the Tasmanian Commission of Inquiry

6th December 2023 – Melbourne, Victoria – CEO Clare Leaney announced this morning of the opportunity to provide hope to the entire Survivor community. An opportunity that is currently presented to the Tasmanian Government after the tabling and public release of the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings.

“It is our hope that the Tasmanian government takes seriously the advice of the Commission of Inquiry, and implements all recommendations in full,” CEO Clare Leaney said.

“The courage displayed by individuals in providing their evidence and telling their truths has been profound.”

“The eyes of the entire Australian Survivor community are on the Tasmanian government and how they respond to this comprehensive body of evidence.”

“Survivors and advocates have done all that was asked of them during this Inquiry, no matter the personal toll – now it’s time for the parliament to act and do the same.

Anything else would be a disservice to the bravery of every Survivor involved, and further impugn those no longer with us.”
